About Bella's Buddies

How we started

Bella's Buddies was founded in efforts to help parents and students during the global pandemic outbreak of Covid-19. Our goal is to continue to provide to provide support in reading & writing despite global school closures. Sadly, 1 in 4 children in America grow up without learning how to read. We radically believe that reading is one of the most important lifelong skills and provides hope for a better future and hence want to continue their improvement in their literacy skills.

About the Founder

My name is Bella and I’m a junior in high school enrolled in mostly AP/Honors classes. Ever since I was little, I have found much joy in reading. I think it is important to take a break from the internet in a world where we are constantly living on technology. I believe that reading is also a great lifelong skill to have and can be applied indirectly various aspects of our lives. Especially during the  global struggles we are currently experiencing for the first time, reading provides an escape from all of the chaos. For this reason, reading has always been a priority to me. I have been holding book drives at my school since middle school and am also part of an organization called Reading Partners, a national non-profit organization that provides students with proven, individualized reading support they need to reach by fourth grade. During the time of Covid-19, I wanted to continue contributing my time to such a cause, and formed this organization in efforts to do so.

Our Values

Here are some startling facts: Students who don’t read proficiently by the 3rd grade are 4 times likelier to drop out of school and 2/3rds of students who cannot read proficiently by the end of 4th grade will end up in jail or on welfare. This is why we believe that literacy is a fundamental tool in future success. We believe that laughter and enthusiasm are necessary for a positive learning environment, and we encourage humor and smiles throughout our sessions!
